Tiny Times (movie version) 小時代 刺金時代|
AKA probably the only film with a large number of beautiful guys, and gals, in recent years.( Read more...Collapse )
So I'm halfway through the novels, and managed to see the 3rd film only recently. According to the director, the finale film coming up next will be different from the devastating ending in the novels... and I really wonder if he is going to drop another bomb. But what could be worse than death itself right? Before you accuse me of spoiling you, this was actually foretold in the closing of the 3rd film by Lin Xiao (whose perspective things are narrated from) and she wasn't being unusally gloomy. Also, if you haven't noticed, there are posters of the 4 gals with teary eyes in close-up headshots since promotions began for the 3rd film, so you know things are definitely not heading towards a cherry direction.
Together during better times...
But my purpose of this post is not to marvel at the opulent lifestyle of the fictional characters nor to discuss how dumb (yet at times chuckle-worthy) the plot of the movies are (in fact I've already done so in a previous post), as compared to the better worded novels (but it's still occasionally frustrating to read because the jumping timelines can be so confusing). I'm here to fangirl over this cute lad:
If K-drama meets Lost You Forever|
If you are following me on twitter, you would know that I have a great adoration for Tong Hua's Lost You Forever 桐华--长相思 (literally Eternally Yearning (For You)).
Xiang Liu and Xiao Yao taking a stroll on the lovely oceans during sane times
Tong Hua's novels are beautifully crafted narratives, titles and dialogues that often draw references from other ancient classical literary and poetry--essentially Classic of Mountains and Seas (山海经) and Tang Dynasty's Li Bai's same-titled poem in this case. I started her Song of the Clouds （云中歌）without reading Ballad of the Desert （大漠谣）first, and then also going backwards to Once Promised （曾许诺）after falling hard for its sequel Lost You Forever.

House Renovation: Appliances. Needs versus Wants|
If I have money to burn, these shall reside in my new habitat.
But my bff preaches practicality to me.
The world is being cruel to art appreciators. >.<
Fortunately, there is a more practical alternative (Aerotron) to a Haiku fan.
But I can't say the same for the fridge; its alternative (Bosch) costs as much as the original. T.T
On another note, I hope the flat near me gets occupied soon--do not wish to have someone doing noisy and dusty renovation AFTER I moved in. NOOoooo~
Aaaaand you're out!|
I'm not a picky person in general. But if we ain't on the same wavelength, I'll have doubts about leaving my house in your hands, that simple enough? Yes, I'm talking about interior designers (IDs) or contractors.
If you made me wait for more than half an hour in the new house with no electricity, I'll be frustrated.
If you made me wait for more than half an hour, and you communicate by mumbling through your words, 아웃이야
If you can't improve on my somewhat purposefully lame idea, 아웃이야
If I am not convinced with your ideas at all, 아웃이야
If you can't give me sound & precise advice, 아웃이야
If you can't send in your quotes within 5 days, 아웃이야
If you keep bugging me on my phone (with regards to choosing you), 아웃이야
If you started to sound like you're begging me for the job, 아웃이야
If you don't know I'll be comparing you with other IDs, and quote me such high prices like I'm a carrot on a chop board, 아웃이야
If you take a full day to reply to my (simple) sms, 아웃이야
Come to think of it, I'm rather mean, ain't I? XD
Can you collect the keys to your HDB BTO flat without a marriage certificate?|
This is a quick one because I know there will be many people like me who are asking the same question but may not have the answer to the above.
Also what if your ROM date is set at more than the stipulated 3 months from date of collection, in which case you can't even register yourself at the ROM?
The answer is yes, most likely you can still collect your keys, provided you inform the HDB in writing beforehand, simply by emailing the customer relations manager in charge of your appointment (stated in the letter) and getting their approval prior to the day of key-collection. At the same time, you should be able to show them real hard evidence that you are indeed preparing for your wedding, i.e receipt of rental of your wedding venue, correspondance with the Justice of Peace, etc.
The underlying point is you must have THE intention to be married if you are not already. The last thing HDB wants is to catch you conning them of a flat, lol.
Upon written approval from the HDB side, then you get your keys on the appointed date. But do remember to later submit a copy of the marriage certificate by the date instructed on the deferment notice!
Review on live-action movie of Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji)|
It has been... 5 years(?) since I first picked up a copy of Kuroshitsuji (黒執事) in a manga store. Kuroshitsuji is about the dark peculiar world of Ciel Phantomhive, a young tortured noble Earl who entered a contract with a demon (who was summoned upon during a ritual) on the condition that he gets his revenge for the misfortune dawned on his family. In return, the demon gets to devour his soul. And whilst at it, the demon volunteered to be his flawless butler just for the heck of it--a result of centuries of boredom. Literally chasing episodes of the manga plus anime seasons 1 & 2, and later finding myself in love with the cynical character Alois Trancy, I was not disappointed with the rather sinister 'finale' of our protagonists in the anime series. Now, news is out that a new season of the anime has received green light and is currently in the production stages. I CAN'T FREAKING WAIT!
And so, it was really a no-brainer when they decided to do a live-action adaptation of this popular series. Note the phrase, 'based on'. When Japan decides to do it, rather than great O' Hollywood, we can all thank our gods for it. And then they announced that the pretty and capable Hiro Mizushima (水嶋 ヒロ) was cast as the demon-butler Sebastian Michaelis, I was sold (note: he's really a demon-devil, not just with some demonic characteristics); though I was primarily more interested in the character Ciel as the series is really all about the child-Earl.
If you don't know who Mizushima-kun is, I assume you are not familiar with Japanese culture and haven't been watching many j-dramas. In short, any manga-adapted drama / movie he was in, I have seen it all (namely 花ざかりの君たちへ, 絶対彼氏, メイちゃんの執事, ドロップ, and BECK); he is really the ideal human being for every swoon-worthy manga character there is. And if you are interested to follow this actor's works, you should really begin with Kamen Rider Kabuto (仮面ライダーカブト) then you can see why so many others are enamored of him. He is the hyde of the film world. But I digress. No wait, I absolutely can't stop gushing over Mizushima-kun. Hold on for more picture-spams of Hiro Mizushima!

|HAPPY NEW YEAR! |
I'm still deciding if I want to write something about Kim Soo Hyun's new drama that practically leaves me ecstatically happy on Weds-Thurs.
He's now known as the Korean Superman. Well, what do you know.
The Totally Inappropriate Crush on Younger Men of Korea|
When partying is all the rage when you are 18 and occasionally someone slides up you and does an awkward dance, or if they are bold enough, ask for your number. Not sure about you, but if that person is above 25 years old, all he gets would be a shaking head with a smile from me. At that time, 25 years sounded so old! Fast forward to today, except for Won Bin (원빈), Ji Sung (지성) and Eric Mun (문정혁), I keep finding myself attracted to celebrities who all happen to be around 25 years of age. Below is a list of my past and current favorites (according to age), why some of them fell out of favor faster than you can say Hallyu; and why I have such a discerning taste for actors at this particular age.

We are being watched...|
Shall I tell you about my neighborhood?
Where once every other 2 months, someone will defecate between staircases. The pile of poop or diarrhea definitely don't belong to your everyday pets, unless someone keeps a cow or a horse somewhere which would be impossible.
Where almost once every other week, someone will toss out their food waste or whatever soggy trash through the window so that the plastic breaks and dirty the windows down the block of flats.
Where people love gnawing on chicken wings while taking a stroll and throwing the bones all over the place.
It's nothing catastrophic but it does make one wonder if one is living in a well-developed city-state. This is certainly not the way to display your resentment with the government IF that's what they were trying to bring across.
So now there is a huge ass CCTV at the multi-storey car park opposite my block of flats, and tones of cameras around the void deck and staircases. And since then, there has never been any funny business. How I wish they have the balls to continue doing what they did. They should be caught and shamed for further wasting taxpayers' money on such installations.
It's quite unfortunate that in this era still only surveillance can deter mischief.
Biore UV Perfect Face Milk|
Friends know how important sun (UV) blocking is to me. That I treat sunblock applications and avoiding strong sun rays so seriously they are scared of me. Having tried many different brands of sunblock or sunscreen, it's seldom I find one truly suitable and have me rave about it.
Ever since I ditched the blue bottled Fancl Sunguard SPF30/PA+++ (it does great oil-control but leaves a white cast, in fact the more you re-apply, the whiter you become and the shade is just awkward; plus I wanted a higher SPF without having to pay so much), I have yet to find one that not only provides me with assured protection AND also not leave me oily faced upon application. For a few months I tried to be content with Hada Labo UV Moist Emulsion (everyone seems to be listing it as their favorite), but the UV Creamy Gel in its series has got to be the worst for a combination-oily skin like me. Your skin ends up shiny like new plastic because of the awesome moisture it gives you. That only gets worse throughout the day, especially in this humid climate of Singapore. So eww.
Currently, I simply swear by Biore UV Perfect Face Milk SPF50/PA+++. This is one of the affordable and super wide range of sunscreen products by Biore.
