HAPPY NEW YEAR!
LOL!

I'm still deciding if I want to write something about Kim Soo Hyun's new drama that practically leaves me ecstatically happy on Weds-Thurs.
He's now known as the Korean Superman. Well, what do you know.

We are being watched...
Shall I tell you about my neighborhood?
Where once every other 2 months, someone will defecate between staircases. The pile of poop or diarrhea definitely don't belong to your everyday pets, unless someone keeps a cow or a horse somewhere which would be impossible.
Where almost once every other week, someone will toss out their food waste or whatever soggy trash through the window so that the plastic breaks and dirty the windows down the block of flats.
Where people love gnawing on chicken wings while taking a stroll and throwing the bones all over the place.

It's nothing catastrophic but it does make one wonder if one is living in a well-developed city-state. This is certainly not the way to display your resentment with the government IF that's what they were trying to bring across.

So now there is a huge ass CCTV at the multi-storey car park opposite my block of flats, and tones of cameras around the void deck and staircases. And since then, there has never been any funny business. How I wish they have the balls to continue doing what they did. They should be caught and shamed for further wasting taxpayers' money on such installations.

It's quite unfortunate that in this era still only surveillance can deter mischief.

The Totally Inappropriate Crush on Younger Men of Korea
When partying is all the rage when you are 18 and occasionally someone slides up you and does an awkward dance, or if they are bold enough, ask for your number. Not sure about you, but if that person is above 25 years old, all he gets would be a shaking head with a smile from me. At that time, 25 years sounded so old! Fast forward to today, except for Won Bin (원빈), Ji Sung (지성) and Eric Mun (문정혁), I keep finding myself attracted to celebrities who all happen to be around 25 years of age. Below is a list of my past and current favorites (according to age), why some of them fell out of favor faster than you can say Hallyu; and why I have such a discerning taste for actors at this particular age.

Biore UV Perfect Face Milk
Friends know how important sun (UV) blocking is to me. That I treat sunblock applications and avoiding strong sun rays so seriously they are scared of me. Having tried many different brands of sunblock or sunscreen, it's seldom I find one truly suitable and have me rave about it.

Ever since I ditched the blue bottled Fancl Sunguard SPF30/PA+++ (it does great oil-control but leaves a white cast, in fact the more you re-apply, the whiter you become and the shade is just awkward; plus I wanted a higher SPF without having to pay so much), I have yet to find one that not only provides me with assured protection AND also not leave me oily faced upon application. For a few months I tried to be content with Hada Labo UV Moist Emulsion (everyone seems to be listing it as their favorite), but the UV Creamy Gel in its series has got to be the worst for a combination-oily skin like me. Your skin ends up shiny like new plastic because of the awesome moisture it gives you. That only gets worse throughout the day, especially in this humid climate of Singapore. So eww.

Currently, I simply swear by Biore UV Perfect Face Milk SPF50/PA+++. This is one of the affordable and super wide range of sunscreen products by Biore.

Movie review: 은밀하게 위대하게 Secretly Greatly or Covertly Grandly 隐秘地,伟大 / 隐秘而伟大
Spies from the North: Flower Boys

sg1

Picked this up while I was all bored and restless. Was never an rabid fan of flower boys Kim Soo Hyun nor Park Ki Woong nor Lee Hyun Woo (left to right in the attached image) nor anyone else in the film. All I know was that there were lots of talk before it hit the theaters (oh, come on, that signature green tracksuit and the mob of hair!), and then apparently it successfully stormed the box office to become one of the highest grossing film in South Korean in 2013, currently one of the top 20 domestic films to date.

The film is based largely on the hit webtoon of 2010, which tells the mundane (or not) life of a covert elite soldier Ryu Hwan, who was deployed by the North Korean Republic to infiltrate a small rural town in the enemy territory. He was later joined by 2 other agents, Hae Rang and Hae Jin, sent consecutively to the same area with unknown missions. Not that I understand what great accomplishment or secrets these Republicans could possibly hope to gain by sending their best agents across the borders to a mere countryside. Always the enigma of the fictional world. Anyway, you can expect sleek fighting scenes coupled with generous dopes of comedy, action, cuteness and some heartbreaks.

Give me some space!
Why do people not have any respect for other's space?
Like this lady who wanted to point something to her friend in the theatre, so she extended her arm out across my chest /face. (I had to resist the urge to bite down on it, and if she had hold out any longer than I could bear...)
Like this oversize guy who knew he won't be able to fit in the seat of a bus but still wanted to squeeze in and cause discomfort to others (ladies) already seated.
Like so many morons playing music out loud on public transport. (Excuse me but your taste in music is really bad and I can't help but draw conclusion on your character based on it.)

How annoyingly rude!

Is everyone trying to seek attention at the dire expense of others? It's a violation and there should be some law against this! I know this is not being taught in textbooks. But why is that some of us understand the concept of being considerate to others, while the rest of the world don't? Help me understand!!!

The unwritten social stigma summarised

Having gotten into the Korean culture more than a decade ago because of its music, I also was active in following its drama and news. So to me, it is really bewildering to find many people are only into the music part of Hallyu otherwise known as KPop. Since I am really into its dramas and films in the recent couple of years, let's talk about Actors vs Idols today. This post also sprung from an observation a few months ago, during the International Gala Premier of Cold Eyes (감시자들) where local fans glorified Lee Junho (of 2PM) to no end, but restrained their enthusiasm in welcoming the rest of the experienced actors and reputed director. Who could blame fervent young fans for not knowing any better? In case this is news to you, or if you are a new fan (within these 5 years) of the Hallyu wave, do you know that celebrities are categorized into:
1) Sportsmen
2) Actors/Actresses
3) Variety hosts
4) Anchormen
5) Comedians
6) Models
7) Idols

No negate
Do you ever get this question? Remember the days in school when you have a secret crush on someone in the class? Yes, that person whose existence made you think going to school was not so bad after all.
Now, how far were you seated from that person?
If you had a choice, would you sit at his/her side or at the back?
At the side, so that you can sneak glances at his/her beautiful face.
At the back so you can stare long and hard into his/her back. Though, this sounds real creepy to me.

For me, I would sit directly in front of him/her so that person can see and notice me, kekeke. No point playing the invisible love fool. If I'm dying to see his/her face? Easy, I'll get a good friend to sit at the back so I can use her as an excuse and keep turning around to talk to her but in actual fact, I'm looking at my crush. Hello there.

AND THAT WAS WHAT I DID. :)

This is our (tiny) time
630-130F610540E37

Okay, so I've just caught the first 2 films of 小时代 (Tiny Times), based on the best-selling novels by Chinese writer 郭敬明 (Guo Jing Ming) who also personally co-produced (along with the 'Godmother of Taiwanese Idol dramas', 柴智屏 Angie Chai) and directed the films. You can see him goofing it out with the cast at the end of the films. Actors are from both Mainland and Taiwan, story's about 4 girls (plus their 2-guy sidekicks) who graduated from school into the society and dealing with the harshness of it. I would say it's basically a rom-com with an outlook of high-end fashion and the commercial world. The films had apparently achieved commercial success despite receiving many negative reviews from Chinese film critics.

Truthfully, the first movie appeared to be a
rip-off from "The Devil Wears Prada", and I was close to flipping the tables. Was also initially left confused by the end of the 2nd film, as I had no prior knowledge that there were sequels to be followed.
Seriously?
They rather shoot movies, one at a time, than a proper drama series which could provide more depth and hence a smoother flow to the whole storyline? Alright, whatever sails their boat. I hope this won't be the start of a trend for
books to live-action adaptions to come. Wait... I think Twilight actually started the trend didn't it? Ewww.

More to be followed once I digest all these.

ps: Wondering if they will change the actor for character 周崇光 since he will undergo a plastic surgery in the future?! Cheney is fine as he is!

And there were five...
I'm still waiting for some brilliant producers / sponsors / directors to cast these 5 lovely 꽃 미남s in the same production, be it a CF, movie or better yet, a DRAMA.
They are models-turned-actors Sung Jun, Lee Soo Hyuk, Lee Jong Suk, Kim Woo Bin and Hong Jong Hyun. I know a couple of them had worked together before (4 of them were cast in the (fantastic) special drama White Christmas, so that was the closest), but never all 5 of them at the same time. So this would be my dream to see them intact in one single piece of work. In fact, I'm not so sure if White Christmas could have achieved its success if Jong Suk had been part of the cast? I think he was not ready (as compared to now), and would have been shadowed by the rest of the splendid cast.

I have the most awesome idea, don't I?
